I reckon your take on this depends on how old you are; and whether you grew up, as I did, in an era where the concept of privacy has changed dramatically. My parents’ generation valued discretion above all. People their age are anxious about handing over credit-card details and worry about Facebook in case it’s collecting information on them; they nervously discuss face-recognition software, Google Earth and privacy settings.
